Is the "L" stick mandatory or recommended ?

Hello,
I have finished the 20 hours in driving school and I have my temporary licence. I was wondering if I could drive without the "L" stick behind the car meaning I'm still learning or if it's mandatory and I can't drive without it.

The
L MUST be clearly displayed on the rear of the vehicle as long as you're driving around on a temporary licence

Trust me, besides the fact that it is compulsory, you are not doing yourself any favours not having it on. Drivers around you behave significantly different and more careful, which is rather pleasant especially when you are a beginner. I have driven way longer with the sticker on then I was supposed to for that reason
