[Sticky] - Practical Exam tips in English

Bericht door levalencia123 »

I want this thread to be a guide for english speaking people about tips you must know before going to the practical exam

These are the ones I have read.

1. After parking, be sure to step out of your car going backwards, and LOCK THE CAR.
2. When going again into the car, approach it from the front of the car.
3. In the highway even though you are allowed legally to be at 90kph, be sure that you show that you know how to overtake.
4. When parking, distance to the verge should not be bigger than 30CM and parallel, distance to the car in front should be 1 meter.
Question here: Does the examineer ask me to turn off the parking sensor?

5. Slow down at pedestrian crossings even if there is no pedestrian about to cross.
6. Slow down at junctions with priority from the right sign, if there is no sign, it also means that there is priority from the right.
7. When parking, the distance with the car in the right must be 75cm, then go backwards 1 meter, then start doing an S shape until you make a 45 degrees with an imaginery line perpendicular to the verge.
8. Dont go more than 30 in residential areas.
9. Dont go very slow on highways.
10. You must show how to use the cleaners, lights, radio, indicators, hazard lights.
11. You must be able to recognize where the engine oil is, the brake fluid, the coolant, the battery fluid.

If the car is originally equipped with parking senors, you may use them. So no, you won't have to turn them off.

8. Dont go more than 30 in residential areas.
Depending if there are signs (zone 30).
10. You must show how to use the cleaners, lights, radio, indicators, hazard lights.
Not the radio but the horn.
11. You must be able to recognize where the engine oil is, the brake fluid, the coolant, the battery fluid.
Not the battery but the oil stick (to mesure the oil)

- Don't leave valuable possessions in your car. (Or say you won't if you were alone)
- Put on the handbrake.

1. How should I stop in a stop light? With the clush or the brake?, once its completely stop, can I put it in neutral or I should leave it 1st gear until it becomes green?
2. If the examiner asks me how did I park, what should I say?
3. Should I stop in all pedestrian crossings even if there is no one going to cross?
4. When should I put my indicators? 20 meters before turning?

If you can read and understand a Flemish you can look on the website http://www.derijprof.be" target="_blank > praktijkexamen.
It is a Flemish site but there are many illustrations, so you can understand a lot of it.
You will find the answers for your questions.

If not, we can try to help you in English.

In the meantime that you go to http://www.derijprof.be" target="_blank I can give an answer to your questions
1. How should I stop in a stop light? With the clush or the brake?, once its completely stop, can I put it in neutral or I should leave it 1st gear until it becomes green?
First you take the brake and when the enginge comes into low revs (about 1000 RPM - revs per minute) you push the clutch too.
2. If the examiner asks me how did I park, what should I say?
You just say:" I think my car is parked right".
3. Should I stop in all pedestrian crossings even if there is no one going to cross?
No
4. When should I put my indicators? 20 meters before turning?
It 's not a question of meters because it depends at what speed you are driving. It is a matter of time.
You should indicate "in time" so other drivers can see "in time" what you are going to do.
More or less you can use this formule:
at 50 km/h > 50 meter in advance
at 90 km/h > 90 meter in advance
at 120 km/h > 120 meter in advance
