Question - 8418

Bericht door ctspandey@gmail.com »

Hello,

Its regarding the question 8418. There is Traffic Sign (STOP) right before(5 to 10 meters) the Traffic Signal.
Driver is in front of SIGN and the signal is green & he wants to turn right.

Question is whether the driver has to stop or not?
As the Traffic Sign is placed before the Light , isn't the driver has to give more attention to SIGN then Lights.

Please suggest.

If the functioning tricolour traffic lights and the sign are applicable to the same traffic situation, then the traffic light has priority over the priority sign.

So you don't have to obey the STOP sign when it's green

Lights & signs aren't always placed in the same position

You want to turn right.
Do you have to stop first, before you cross the junction?
You don't have to stop when you turn right, but still you must give way to the traffic on the main road.

Which is not a result of the STOP sign

But because of the combination of a red light with an additional green arrow (integrated in the light as in the pic, or mounted to the side of it)
Traffic may proceed in the green indicated direction, but must give way to other vehicles AND pedestrians

Thanks for your response.
Well my Theory lesson teacher is having a different view which stays that I have to stop .
I am wishing I should not get this question in my exam :D

I will consider it NO for now.

Thanks

Your theory teacher is wrong I'm afraid.

The traffic lights are working at the intersection
Which means the priority signs are not applicable - in accordance Art 6.3 first alinea:

https://wegcode.be/wetteksten/secties/k ... e/105-art6

6.3. Als de verkeerslichten op een bepaalde plaats werken gelden hier de verkeersborden betreffende de voorrang niet die op dezelfde weg geplaatst zijn.

(the second alinea contains a few exceptions to that, mostly on behalf of cyclists)

You still have to yield to other traffic though :!:

If the light doesn't work - meaning a blinking central amber light-
Or if the bottom light is an amber blinking light instead of green, then he'd be right and you'd have to obey the priority signs ...

Make sure you make the difference between this type with several arrows

Or...

This type with only 1 additional arrow

There is NO LEGAL REQUIREMENT that anyone following tricolour arrow-shaped traffic lights, should have priority over traffic coming the opposite way

So please stop pretending that it exists
It doesn't :!:

Cross-traffic obviously should have a red light when you have a green arrow in the tricolour system
Which is a legal requirement after all.
But that legal requirement is being ignored by the road authority at ever more crossroads in Belgium (mainly Flanders) :!:
