If it's some physical obstruction other than traffic signs that force you into the other lane, it doesn't matter which lane you're moving out from: you have to yield as you're changing lanes.

That changes if and when traffic slows down to a crawl ("sterk vertraagd verkeer") in both lanes: then you have to zip.

If you follow the right side of the road, you have priority - just don't expect to always get it ...


So you have 4 situations leading to lane reduction
- traffic signs including road markings :arrow: apply priority from the right
- some undefined unsigned obstruction :arrow: yield when you're changing lanes

- either of the above combined with crawling traffic: zip


When politicians were looking to get the zipping-rule into the traffic laws, I've tried to put it out of their heads as they'd make an already complicated situation even more clouded.

when the reduction lane is on the right: the right car has priority.
when the reduction lane is on the left: the left cat has NO priority.

This is in the condition that there's no traffic jam (traffic pace is not severely reduced)

If the driver in right lane is forced by road signs to merge into the lane to the left, he follows the right side of the road and thus enjoys priority from the right (as that is the normal priority rule ...).

If the obstruction is a parked or waiting car or so, the driver in the right lane would do a manoeuvre when merging into the left lane, and has to yield ...

When there is a reduction lane, there are two cases:
1- When the reduction lane is on the right, the driver on the freeway has to give priority.
2- When the reduction lane is on the left, the driver on the freeway has priority.

is this correct?
