That's still valid

Bit of a silly situation, as Mexico is an original signee of the 1968 UN treaty on road traffic, but hasn't ratified it and doesn't apply it ...

My question is, once I pass the theory, is there a way I can drive until they resume the practical tests?

While it's not required, you can still apply for a provisional licence.

But driving schools are closed too for car licences, so it's always with a tutor meeting the requirements, and with restrictions
(not driving during weekend nights, nor the nights before and on a festive day - from 2200 to 0600)

Could I apply to it on the ground that I already have a valid foreign license? (I mean, without doing the 20-hour course?)
No
You can't get that type of provisional licence based on a foreign driver's licence

Getting a provisional Belgian driver license based on a foreign (valid) license

Hello,

I have a valid driving license from Mexico (it is actually permanent so it does not expire). I cannot exchange it as it is for a Belgian one. I am going to do soon the theory exam (e.g. end of January). I've read in this forum that with a valid foreign (and non-exchangeable) driving license, once you pass the theoretical exam, you can skip the provisional driving license application (and the 9 month practice period) and apply directly to do the practical test (I hope it is still like this).

Problem now with Corona is that the practical exams are suspended (until further notice). My question is, once I pass the theory, is there a way I can drive until they resume the practical tests? I was thinking one way, could be to obtain the provisional license. Could I apply to it on the ground that I already have a valid foreign license? (I mean, without doing the 20-hour course?) Or, do I always need to do such lessons or, on the other hand, have the correspondent tutor with me all the time while driving?

Thanks in advance.
